Here are some basic facts and information about WV Wildcats and Lacrosse in general to help you get started.
Why WV Wildcats?
Check out the video to see what we are all about, hear our philosophy, and get excited for Spring!
Tis the Season
Lacrosse is an outdoor, SPRING sport that begins in early March and ends mid-June. Early season, in-door practices begin sometime in late February (or early March) and are held at one of the local in-door turf facilities and school gyms. These are available for no extra fee, and are a great introduction to basic skills. There are off-season leagues, tournaments, and games that WV Wildcats will promote and participate in – these are not mandatory and additional fees may apply.
Clinic Teams vs Grades Teams
Clinic is for our youngest players (K-2), focused on basic skill development. Therefore the fee is $25. Clinic players do participate in scheduled scrimmages and Jamborees (6v6, no goalies) against other towns/teams. This gives them the opportunity to experience lacrosse in a "game" environment. (No additional fees apply.)
New! Girls Program
We are excited to announce the launch of the Warwick Girls Lacrosse program, managed by Summer Mangels and Alison Fatzynytz. The new program is a joint venture uniting the players, coaches, and leadership from both Warwick leagues focused on growing lacrosse and providing the best teaching and learning experiences for all Warwick’s girls, grades K-8. When you register your daughter through our website, she is automatically enrolled in the new program.
Practices are held 2-3 days per week for approx. 1 ½ hours. Approximately 12 games are scheduled for each team during the season and are held in lieu of a practice. Teams can have 1 – 2 games per week. The total time commitment is typically 3 days per week (can be a mix of weekday evenings and weekend days). The full season schedule will be emailed to you by your coach and posted to the website prior to the start of the season.
April Showers . . . if practices and/or games are rained out they will be rescheduled when and if possible.
Location, Location, Location
Practices and Home Games will be held at one of the following locations: Town Park (Union Corners Road), Airport Park (off Kings Highway), Sanfordville Elementary School. Pre season indoor practices may take place at the Goshen Sports Complex, The Yard in Warwick, the WV Middle School, or other similar facility.
Away games are hosted by opposing teams in Orange, Bergen, Rockland, Sussex, and Passaic counties.
What to wear?
Practice jerseys and game shorts are league issued and must be returned at the end of the season. Game jerseys are personalized with your child’s name and number and yours to keep! Click here for a list of boys and girls equipment that you will need to purchase prior to the first practice.
Practice is a critical part of the season and we need players to be there. While we understand that school and family situations arise, we can’t do our jobs as coaches if we can’t properly instruct and condition our players. Practice is where this happens. Players who miss practice or are frequently late, are depriving themselves of the opportunity to learn our plays, condition their bodies, and improve their stick skills. If a player doesn't know the plays, it makes it difficult to get him playtime during a game and it is unfair to those players who attend practice regularly. Players must make every effort to be at practice and if they must be absent, they must notify their coach in advance - parents can simply rsvp to the email reminder generated by the system prior to every practice. Attendance is taken at every practice.
